Gardens & Terraces
The extensive gardens at the Yitzhak Rabin Center are composed of the President William J. and Senator Hillary R. Clinton Gardens, the King Hussein Memorial Gardens and the Anita Hirsh Family Garden. The Clinton and King Hussein gardens are a tribute to Yitzhak Rabin’s partners in peace. The Anita Hirsh Family Garden is situated between the Clinton and King Hussein gardens at the main entrance to the center. Dedicated in 2006 by Anita Hirsh, Los Angeles, CA, it reflects her appreciation for landscape design and her commitment to creating the proper setting for the Center’s important work.
The Anita Hirsh Family Garden is home to the monumental outdoor sculptures, “Trees in Negative,” by the renowned Tel Aviv born sculptor Menashe Kadishman, a gift of the Philip and Muriel Berman Foundation, Allentown, PA. The sculpture is composed of 8 cor-ten steel trees, each 24 feet high and 8 feet wide, creating an impressive first experience at the Center. In addition to the gift to the Rabin Center, the Berman’s were responsible for contributing financing to the creation of Calder’s great Jerusalem Stabile, which was gifted to Israel.
The design of the gardens at the Yitzhak Rabin Center is an integral part of the site with its ascending terraces and steps creating scenic grounds for walking and taking in a panoramic view of Tel Aviv. Adorned with sculpture and populated with ficus trees local to Tel Aviv and transplanted olive trees from the Galilee, the setting provides a tranquil place to contemplate and process the emotional impact of the Israeli Museum.
Path of Nations
Facing the garden and connecting all parts of the complex, the Path of Nations is a massive outdoor arcade formed by concrete column and supporting trellis. Adjacent to the terrace garden, it commands a 180-degree panoramic view of Tel Aviv, from the sea on the west to the foothills in the east. The pathway contains the official seals of countries that have participated in establishing the Center including: The Federal Republic of Germany, The Kingdom of Norway and the United States of America. The Path of Nations was made possible through a generous gift of the Robert H. Smith and Robert Kogod Families.
